Profeco analysis compares costs of home-cooked meals versus dining out
The Mexican Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco) has released a comparative analysis highlighting the significant savings achieved by preparing meals at home rather than dining at restaurants or local eateries.
According to the study featured in the October edition of the Consumer Magazine, a three-course meal for a family of four at a restaurant costs approximately $400.00 MXN. In contrast, the actual cost of the ingredients used to prepare the same menu at home is estimated at $81.75 MXN per meal. While the initial grocery purchase for the ingredients totaled $401.00 MXN, the analysis notes that these supplies allow for multiple subsequent meals, further reducing the cost per portion.
To optimize family finances, Profeco recommends creating weekly menus, purchasing only necessary items, and utilizing ingredients across different dishes to prevent waste. The agency also noted that the Inflation and Scarcity Package (Pacic) can assist consumers in accessing basic goods at fair prices in self-service stores.
