Profeco reports costs for traditional pozole ingredients

The Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco) has released a price analysis for the ingredients of pozole, a traditional Mexican dish central to Independence Day celebrations. According to Profeco’s ‘Quién es Quién en los Precios’ program, preparing a traditional pozole for seven people is estimated to cost approximately 540 pesos.

Protein constitutes the largest portion of the budget. Pork meat prices vary significantly, ranging from 120 to 280 pesos per kilo depending on the cut, while chicken prices were monitored between 32 and 59 pesos per kilo. For corn (maíz cacahuazintle), the lowest price was found at La Comer in Mexico City at 47.90 pesos per kilo, while the highest was 61.50 pesos at a Soriana in Tamaulipas.

Other essential ingredients and accompaniments include tostadas, dried chilies, radishes, lettuce, lime, and onion. Profeco advises consumers to monitor price variations across local markets and supermarkets to manage costs effectively during the holiday season.
