Profepa closes poultry farm in Cotaxtla for lack of environmental permits

The Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (Profepa) has implemented a partial and temporary closure of a poultry farm located in Cotaxtla, Veracruz. The enforcement action follows an inspection on September 2, which revealed that two poultry modules, named ‘Covadonga 1 and 2’, were operating without the required environmental impact authorization from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat).

The facility occupies approximately 7.2 hectares of infrastructure within a larger 79.99-hectare property, with the remaining land serving as a buffer zone. While the operator presented municipal land-use and construction licenses, they failed to provide the necessary federal environmental permits. Profepa stated that it will continue administrative proceedings to determine further legal actions under the General Law of Ecological Equilibrium and Environmental Protection.
