Profepa monitors nine seized dolphins in Cancún

The Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (Profepa) is monitoring nine Tursiops aduncus dolphins seized from Dolphin Connection Cancún (formerly Dolphinaris Cancún) in Quintana Roo. The facility was temporarily closed in October 2025 due to irregularities, including turbid water and poor sanitation.

While Profepa has noted improvements in the facility's life support systems and water quality, the dolphins continue to suffer from various health issues. These include ocular problems, lesions, alterations to the tongue and oral mucosa, dental wear, and other chronic conditions.

Due to their medical state, three of the dolphins are unlikely to be candidates for relocation. Authorities are currently evaluating the potential transfer of the remaining six specimens with the assistance of specialists. The administrative procedure regarding the facility's alleged non-compliance remains ongoing.
