Profertil advances US$ 2 billion fertilizer plant project in Bahía Blanca

Profertil is advancing plans for a new nitrogen fertilizer plant in Bahía Blanca, Argentina. The company recently amended its corporate statutes to formally include the construction, operation, and management of a urea production facility as a corporate objective.

The project, which could require an investment of approximately US$ 2 billion, aims to leverage the increasing gas production from the Vaca Muerta formation. By industrializing natural gas locally, the company seeks to supply both the domestic and regional markets.

Technical teams are currently conducting studies regarding costs and resource availability. Profertil intends to prepare presentations by late 2024 or early 2027 to evaluate entering the Large Investment Incentive Regime (RIGI), which offers tax, exchange, and customs benefits alongside legal stability.
