Progressive Slovakia seeks new laws to protect victims of violence

Progressive Slovakia (PS) organised a round‑table on the protection of violence victims, where party chair Lucia Plaváková said the current system "fails to protect victims and helps perpetrators." The party plans to introduce several legislative proposals at the September parliamentary session, including redefining rape, adding a domestic‑violence offence to the Criminal Code, improving protection for child victims, revising parental‑rights rules in violent‑family cases, and providing financial aid for victims who leave home.

Separately, PS parliamentary club chair Zuzana Mesterová explained that the party has had to adopt a tougher communication style in response to Prime Minister Robert Fico's tactics, stressing that PS will not “play another game” under his agenda and emphasizing a more assertive political stance.
