Slovakia family, housing & inclusion reforms
Entities: Government of Slovakia · Young families · Municipality of Liptovský Mikuláš · Roma community · Government Office (Úrad vlády)
Overview
Since June 2026 the Slovak government has expanded its family‑support and housing agenda. Caregiver allowances were increased, a mortgage‑relief scheme for pre‑2024 loans was introduced, and new housing projects were launched in Ilava and Žiar nad Hronom for low‑ and middle‑income families. In July the government added a €35.3 million programme for rental apartments, directing funds to municipalities to build, expand or renovate units for young families, seniors, Roma communities and people with disabilities. Regulated rents and a minimum 20‑year social‑rental commitment were stipulated, with quotas reserving at least 30 % of new units for Roma in areas where they comprise up to half of the population (rising to 50 % where they exceed that share). A maintenance fund of 0.5 % of procurement costs must be set aside annually.
Child‑protection measures continued: a fourth online‑safety round‑table kept anonymous helplines active and launched a funding call to embed these services in the Mental Health Fund. The coordinator network grew to 46, the “Safe Place” campaign now covers about 450 institutions and reaches roughly 4,000 children aged 12‑16, while the “Childhood without Violence” Action Plan (2027‑2029) progressed toward a ban on corporal punishment.
Energy‑efficiency programmes were scaled up with staggered address‑based assistance and the €186 million “Obnov dom mini+” renovation subsidy, attracting 5,000 applications within an hour. The Ministry of Innovation and Energy postponed final rules for the “Green Homes” subsidy. In mid‑July the Ministry of Education advanced a draft law on performance‑based funding for secondary schools.
