Progressive Slovakia struggles to gain regional electoral support

Following a summer campaign aimed at expanding influence beyond Bratislava, the Progressive Slovakia (PS) party has faced difficulties securing victories in regional municipal elections. Despite efforts by party leader Michal Šimečka to campaign personally in various municipalities, the party's impact appears limited in several key areas.

In Malinovo, an independent candidate won decisively, while the joint candidate from Progressive Slovakia, Democrats, and SaS failed to secure a seat on the municipal council. In Banská Bystrica, the campaign to support Diana Javorčíková was unsuccessful as the incumbent mayor retained his position. Similar challenges were noted in other targeted regions, suggesting the party continues to struggle with establishing a foothold outside the capital.
