Hungary announces 2026 national cake and bread winners
The winners of the 2026 Hungarian culinary competitions for St. Stephen's Day have been announced. In the national cake competition, the Kézműves Cukrászda team from Gyula defended their title with the dessert ‘Bíborfehér’, which features wild berries, roasted almonds, and a sour cream and curd mousse.
In the sugar-free category, the ‘Szilvafácska’ dessert by Promenád Kávéház from Balatongyörök took first place. This creation utilizes plum, walnuts, milk chocolate, and green tea without added sugar. The ‘Ribizli keringő’ from Kovács Cukrászda received a special award from a jury of children with Type 1 diabetes.
Regarding bread and pastry, the Pilisi Pityókás bread by HEL Pékség Kft. was named the St. Stephen's Day bread. Additionally, Pedró Pékség’s ‘Citrom virág’ was awarded the title of pastry of the year. The winning desserts will be available for tasting starting August 20 at various locations across the country, including the Magyar Ízek Utca in Budapest.
