Hungarian national culinary competition winners

Overview

In August 2026, Hungary announced the winners of its 20th annual national culinary competitions held for St. Stephen’s Day. The Kézműves Cukrászda team from Gyula secured the national cake title with ‘Bíborfehér’, a dessert featuring wild berries, roasted almonds, and a sour cream and curd mousse. The cake, created by Roland Kis, Zoltán Balogh, and László Balogh, also incorporates forest fruit jelly enhanced with currant wine and ‘rögös túró’.

Other winners included Promenád Kávéház for the sugar-free category with ‘Szilvafácska’, a plum and walnut creation. The ‘Ribizli keringő’ from Kovács Cukrászda received a special award from a jury of children with Type 1 diabetes. In the bread and pastry categories, HEL Pékség Kft. won for its ‘Pilisi Pityókás’ bread, and Pedró Pékség was named pastry of the year for ‘Citrom virág’.

Following the initial announcement, the ‘Bíborfehér’ cake was made available for tasting at the ‘Magyar Ízek Utcája’ event in Budapest from August 20 to 22. To meet high demand, the cake is also being produced by Kemenes Cukrász Manufaktúra for home delivery. Starting August 22, the online retailer Kifli.hu will offer the dessert in three-slice packages, providing access to customers in more than 300 settlements.
