Prosciutto di Parma: Quality rankings and preservation tips

Recent culinary evaluations and food safety guidelines have highlighted best practices for consuming and storing Prosciutto di Parma. A blind tasting conducted by Gambero Rosso assessed nine pre-packaged Prosciutto di Parma DOP products, evaluating them on aromatic balance, sweetness, and fat quality. The brand ‘Frutti dei Sogni’ ranked highest, followed by Esselunga and Fior Fiore Coop.

To maintain the quality of sliced ham after opening a package, experts recommend minimizing air exposure. Once the protective atmosphere of a commercial tray is broken, the product should ideally be consumed within two to three days. For better preservation, sliced ham should be transferred to airtight containers or sealed zip-lock bags to prevent the edges from darkening and the texture from drying out. The Consorzio del Prosciutto di Parma emphasizes that properly stored ham is essential to preserving its characteristic flavor and aroma.
