Prosecutor seeks life sentence in Eyüp Can murder case
In the trial regarding the death of 12-year-old Eyüp Can Güner in Anamur, Mersin, a prosecutor has requested an aggravated life sentence for the defendant, N. U. The case stems from an incident on July 29, 2025, where the child was found dead in a passage following a chase.
During the fifth hearing at the Anamur High Criminal Court, the prosecution requested that the charge be upgraded from negligent homicide to intentional murder against a child under Article 82/1e of the Turkish Penal Code. The defendant, who was seen chasing the child in security footage, claimed his intention was merely to joke with the boy and requested acquittal.
Eyüp Can’s mother, Güllü Can, stated that the murder has been clarified and expressed her hope that the defendant receives a sentence without any discretionary reductions. An autopsy previously determined the cause of death to be head trauma, bone fractures, and internal organ injuries.
