Prosecutors seek two-year sentence for woman who assaulted police at Jamsil protest

Prosecutors have requested a two-year prison sentence for a woman in her 40s accused of assaulting and insulting both police officers and other protesters during a demonstration at the Jamsil counting station in June.

During the incident on June 22–23, the defendant, identified as Kim, allegedly engaged in repeated physical altercations with other participants. When police attempted to intervene, she reportedly used profanity and spat on them. Specifically, she is accused of approaching a patrolling officer, questioning if they were “Chinese police,” and spitting on their face twice when prevented from filming.

The prosecution noted that while the defendant's depression should be considered, the nature of the crime is severe as it involved five victims. Kim’s defense counsel stated that she admits to the charges and was acting out of extreme anxiety and mental distress regarding perceived infringements on voting rights. The next hearing is scheduled for the morning of the 29th.
