Incheon disability center abuse legal proceedings
Overview
Prosecutors in Incheon, South Korea, have requested a seven-year prison sentence for a female worker at a developmental disability service center. The defendant is accused of assaulting a severely disabled individual 228 times and committing sexual misconduct between October 2024 and April of the previous year.
CCTV footage presented during the trial showed the defendant striking the victim’s head and private parts. In addition to the prison term, prosecutors are seeking a seven-year employment ban. Two other staff members are also facing legal consequences: a male worker received a fine for emotional abuse through neglect, and the center director has been charged with negligence in supervision.
The victim’s mother testified at the hearing, describing the facility as a “place of suffering.” While the primary defendant admitted to the crimes and expressed remorse, the other two accused individuals denied intentionality regarding the charges.
