Prostate cancer survival linked to diet and quality of life

Recent research and medical insights highlight critical aspects of long-term health and quality of life for men surviving prostate cancer.

A study involving nearly 5,000 men with nonmetastatic prostate cancer, conducted by researchers from McGill University and Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health, suggests that dietary choices significantly impact survival rates. The findings indicate that high consumption of saturated fats is associated with increased mortality, largely due to cardiovascular disease. The study suggests that replacing saturated and animal fats with unsaturated plant-based fats may help protect heart health and improve long-term survival.

Beyond physical longevity, medical experts emphasize the importance of addressing sexual health and intimacy following treatment. Dr. Vaibhav Sonwani of the HCG Cancer Centre notes that treatments such as surgery, radiation, and hormone therapy can lead to erectile dysfunction, lowered desire, and emotional challenges. Experts encourage patients to discuss these issues openly with healthcare providers to manage the impact on quality of life and relationships.
