Prostějov train collision investigation
Police are investigating a collision between a passenger train and a refuse collection vehicle at an unprotected railway crossing near Prostějov. The accident occurred shortly before 2:00 PM when a driver of the refuse vehicle turned left onto a single-track crossing and failed to notice an oncoming train traveling from Kostelce na Hané.
Eight people were injured in the incident, including three passengers, a conductor, and a driver from the train, as well as the driver and two passengers from the refuse vehicle. All injured parties were transported to hospitals. Breathalyzer tests for both the train driver and the vehicle driver returned negative results.
Total damages are estimated to exceed eight million CZK, with the refuse vehicle sustaining six million CZK in damage and the train sustaining two million CZK. Regional rail service was suspended for approximately six and a half hours, during which Czech Railways provided replacement bus services.
