Train collision in Prostějov

Overview

Police are investigating a collision between a passenger train and a refuse collection vehicle near Prostějov. The accident occurred at an unprotected railway crossing when the refuse vehicle driver turned left onto a single-track crossing and failed to notice an oncoming train.

The incident resulted in eight injuries, involving passengers, a conductor, a train driver, and the refuse vehicle's driver and passengers. All injured individuals were transported to hospitals. Breathalyzer tests for both drivers were negative. Damages are estimated to exceed eight million CZK, with the refuse vehicle and the train sustaining six million and two million CZK in damage, respectively. Regional rail service was suspended for approximately six and a half hours while replacement bus services were provided.
