Protecom launches electricity bill calculator for consumers

The Electricity Consumer Protection Office (Protecom) has launched an official calculator to help users verify their electricity bills. The tool allows consumers to estimate their expected payment based on their specific consumption, distribution company, and tariff category.

By using the calculator, users can compare consumption between different months and distinguish between the portion of the cost they pay directly and the amount covered by electricity subsidies. The system utilizes tariff schedules approved by the Superintendency of Electricity (SIE) and is available for users of regulated distributors, including Edesur, Edeeste, and Edenorte.

The launch comes amid a high volume of consumer complaints. During the first half of 2026, Protecom recorded 29,833 new claims and issued 52,254 decisions, of which 17,466 were in favor of the users.
