Protest in Porto calls for peace, food, and housing rights

A large demonstration took place in Porto, Portugal, where participants rallied under the slogan “We want peace, bread, and the right to housing.” The protest addressed several interconnected global and local issues, including the demand for peace in a world facing the escalation of war and the fight for better wages to combat inequality.

Speakers at the event linked these struggles to various international contexts, including Cuba, Palestine, Western Sahara, Europe, and Latin America. The movement expressed opposition to what it described as US imperialism and the neoliberal, federalist, and militaristic policies of the European Union. Protesters argued that current EU policies favor multinational interests and military spending over the essential needs of workers, such as housing, health, education, and ecological balance.
