Petropavlivska Borshchahivka protest over alleged military detention center

Protests erupted in Petropavlivska Borshchahivka, a suburb of Kyiv, following allegations that a private residence was being used as an unofficial detention center by the National Guard. Demonstrators gathered near the property to demand the release of individuals, including mobilized men and suspected deserters, whom they accused of being held and tortured in the building's basement.

The confrontation escalated into violence, involving clashes between protesters and security forces, the use of tear gas, and reports of damage to police vehicles. Witnesses and medical workers reported seeing individuals with injuries consistent with physical abuse. One report specifically alleged that a 14-year-old boy was beaten with a shovel.

National Guard Commander Oleksandr Pivnenko confirmed that the building served as a temporary deployment point for military unit 3121 and that several soldiers were hospitalized for medical assistance. Kyrylo Budanov, head of the Presidential Office, visited the site and noted that similar unofficial detention locations exist. While some reports suggested up to 40 people were being held, authorities have provided varying accounts of the number of detainees.
