A Coruña protests against Vox rally lead to violence and injuries

Violent clashes erupted in A Coruña following a pre-campaign event by Vox leader Santiago Abascal. The disturbances, which took place in the Plaza de María Pita, involved protesters throwing stones, chairs, and fireworks at security forces and attendees.

The clashes resulted in thirteen police officers being injured and two journalists wounded. Approximately thirty containers were set on fire during the unrest. Authorities reported three arrests for offenses including public disorder and attacks against authority.

Government officials attributed the violence to a small group of radical and anti-system elements, including members of the Riazor Blues. Conversely, various social and youth organizations, such as Galiza Nova and the Sindicato de Vivenda, have denounced the police response as disproportionate and characterized the events as repression.

In the political sphere, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, leader of the People's Party (PP), expressed support for the security forces and the citizens of A Coruña, stating that such violence has no place in a democracy. Meanwhile, Santiago Abascal condemned the protests as acts of coercion and violence.
