Protests erupt across Iran over wages, pensions, and unemployment

Multiple protest gatherings have been reported across various Iranian cities involving workers, retirees, and job seekers.

In Ahvaz, contractors for the Marun Oil Company have held protests for four consecutive days demanding unpaid wages and insurance benefits. Additionally, job seekers in Ahvaz have also staged demonstrations. In Gachsaran, a protest by job seekers regarding recruitment processes at the newly opened Lishter Refinery reportedly escalated when security forces used gunfire to disperse the crowd, with unconfirmed reports of one injury.

Retirees have organized widespread demonstrations. Telecommunications retirees held protests in Isfahan, Shiraz, Sanandaj, Hamedan, Tehran, and Arak, calling for salary adjustments and improved supplemental insurance. Meanwhile, Social Security retirees in Shush protested for wage equalization and greater independence for the Social Security Organization from government control.

Other notable actions include a protest by Saipa customers in Tehran against contract changes and additional fees, and demonstrations by Arian Foolad employees in Qazvin.
