Protests erupt in Paraguay following feminicide of Deisy Paola Giménez

Women and feminist organizations in Paraguay have taken to the streets of Asunción to demand justice for Deisy Paola Giménez, a 22-year-old woman murdered by her ex-partner, Aldo Alexis Duarte. The protest, organized by the Articulación Feminista del Paraguay - 25NPy, centered around the Plaza de la Democracia, where demonstrators criticized the state's failure to protect victims of gender-based violence.

Giménez was ambushed by Duarte near her workplace in Lambaré, Central Department. Reports indicate that the victim had previously reported violence and sought protection from the justice system, but was ultimately killed. Duarte is currently detained and facing charges.

The incident has highlighted growing concerns regarding the efficacy of state mechanisms for preventing feminicide in the country. Demonstrators used slogans such as “Vivas nos queremos” to protest against systemic machismo and the perceived absence of effective state intervention in domestic violence cases.
