Protests erupt in Santiago de Compostela over Israeli medical presence

A medical congress in Santiago de Compostela, organized by the European Research Network in General and Family Medicine, has drawn significant protests due to the participation of the Israeli Association of Family Physicians.

More than 200 people marched through the streets of the Galician capital, organized by the collective Sanidade Galega con Palestina (SGCP) and supported by various pro-Palestinian and human rights organizations. Protesters expressed opposition to the presence of Israeli representatives, citing concerns regarding the destruction of the Palestinian healthcare system and the ongoing conflict.

The Galician Association of Family and Community Medicine (AGAMFEC) also issued a statement expressing solidarity with the Palestinian people and condemning violence against civilian populations. Despite the demonstrations, the congress is scheduled to continue its proceedings.
