Protests in Santiago de Compostela

Overview

In October 2026, Santiago de Compostela saw two distinct demonstrations. Initially, racialized individuals and the Foro Galego de Inmigración organized an anti-racist and anti-colonial protest in Praza do Obradoiro. The demonstrators denounced structural barriers in the housing market and racism from landlords and real estate agencies, stating that housing is being treated as a tool for wealth accumulation rather than a right.

Later in the month, more than 200 people marched through the city to protest a medical congress involving the Israeli Association of Family Physicians. Organized by the collective Sanidade Galega con Palestina, the protesters expressed opposition to the presence of Israeli representatives due to the destruction of the Palestinian healthcare system. The Galician Association of Family and Community Medicine also issued a statement condemning violence against civilian populations.
