Prouni students can apply for R$ 700 monthly stay scholarship

Students participating in the Prouni program in Brazil can apply for a monthly 'Bolsa Permanência' (Stay Scholarship) of R$ 700, provided by the Ministry of Education (MEC). This financial aid is designed to assist low-income students with expenses such as transportation, food, and study materials to prevent dropout rates.

To qualify, students must meet three specific criteria: they must hold a 100% Prouni scholarship, be enrolled in an in-person, full-time degree program lasting at least six semesters, and attend classes with an average of at least six hours per day. The benefit cannot be combined with other public educational subsidies.

Applicants must contact the Prouni coordination office at their respective private higher education institution to begin the internal process, as there is no centralized national platform for this specific application. Selection occurs monthly based on budget availability from the Secretariat of Higher Education (Sesu). In cases of limited funding, priority is given based on the student's original entry process ranking and their Enem scores.

Separately, for the 2026 second-semester selection cycle, pre-selected students must complete their documentation and information verification by Friday, August 14. Those not selected in the first two calls will have the opportunity to join the waiting list by expressing interest on August 26 and 27.
