Italy: Regional development and reconstruction initiatives underway
Various Italian municipalities and the Molise region are implementing several local development and reconstruction initiatives. In Campobasso, the extraordinary commissioner has extended deadlines for the 2026 public notice regarding private housing reconstruction following the 2018 earthquakes, moving the application deadline to September 25, 2026. Additionally, the city is addressing social welfare, climate emergencies, and its candidacy for Italian Capital of Culture 2029.
The Molise region has announced nearly 3 million euros in funding for the enhancement and modernization of local cultural sites, including theaters, museums, and libraries, to boost tourism and social cohesion. In the province of Campobasso, local authorities are also addressing infrastructure needs, such as road maintenance on the SP55 due to increased traffic following the closure of the SS16.
Other regional projects include a 2 million euro fund for businesses in Catanzaro to support urban regeneration, a 530,000 euro sewage upgrade in Spoltore funded by Terna, and a 100,000 euro maintenance project for the Albinelli Market in Modena. Infrastructure improvements are also underway in Porto Torres and Castel Maggiore.
