Province of Trento buys Lake Garda hotel ruins for redevelopment
The Province of Trento has decided to purchase the ruins of the former Hotel Ponale, also known as Casa della Trota, for 2.3 million euros. Located on the western shore of Lake Garda between a steep cliff and the lake, the site has been in decay for years.
The redevelopment plan aims to enhance the area's landscape and tourism appeal. While dilapidated later additions will be removed, the 18th-century historical core will be preserved and restored. The project also includes improving safety along the cliff face and reopening an old path between the lake and the historic Ponale route to benefit hikers and cyclists.
Historically, the site served as a restaurant specializing in trout in the 1930s before expanding into an 18-room hotel after World War II.
