Redevelopment of Casa della Trota on Lake Garda

Overview

The Province of Trento has purchased the ruins of the former Hotel Ponale, also known as Casa della Trota, located on the cliffs of Lake Garda for 2.3 million euros. The site, which has been empty for over 25 years due to high maintenance costs and rockfall risks, was historically a restaurant and an 18-room hotel.

Redevelopment plans involve the partial demolition of dilapidated sections to make way for new infrastructure. While later additions will be removed, the 18th-century historical core is slated for preservation and restoration. The project aims to improve safety along the cliff face and enhance the ‘Strada del Ponale’ hiking and cycling routes by improving connections between the path and the lakeshore.
