PSD faces mixed electoral results and campaigning disputes in Brazil
The PSD party, led by Gilberto Kassab, faced a complex electoral outcome in Brazil. While Kassab maintains that the party's size remained stable compared to other centrist groups amid the rise of the PL party, the PSD saw a reduction in its presence in both the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate. The party also lost control of several states, including Minas Gerais, Rio Grande do Sul, and Paraná.
In Pernambuco, the PSD saw success with the reelection of Governor Raquel Lyra. However, the election day in the state was marked by mutual accusations of “boca de urna” (illegal campaigning at polling stations) between the PSB and PSD coalitions. The Secretary of Social Defense recorded 124 occurrences of irregularities, including illegal distribution of campaign materials, by the end of the morning.
