PSOE challenges Cantabria government over land use and science laws

The Socialist Group (PSOE) in the Cantabria Parliament is bringing an interpellation to the plenary session to demand government compliance with the 2022 Science Law. Spokesperson Mario Iglesias accused the current administration of dismantling essential scientific tools, such as the Research and Transfer Foundation, through administrative simplification laws.

Additionally, the PSOE is questioning President María José Sáenz de Buruaga regarding the use of Singular Projects of Regional Interest (PSIR). Iglesias alleged that the government is abusing these projects as a shortcut to bypass municipal planning, effectively acting as a commercial agent for private developers. Specific projects cited include Bosques de Santander in Rucandial and Olucas Surf Centre in Ribamontán al Monte.

The opposition also intends to defend a non-legislative motion to coordinate with the Cadastre and the Property Registry to finalize long-standing land consolidation processes in Ruente and Polaciones, which have remained pending for 24 and 35 years, respectively.
