PSOE to hold municipal primary elections in 14 Spanish cities

The Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) will hold primary elections on September 26 to select candidates for municipal lists in 14 Spanish cities. In these locations, multiple aspirants have secured the necessary endorsements to run.

Nine of these cities are located in Andalusia, including the provincial capitals of Almería, Córdoba, and Jaén. This high number of primaries in Andalusia occurs despite a directive from the Andalusian Socialist leader and former vice president, María Jesús Montero, suggesting that fewer primaries would be preferable.

In addition to the Andalusian cities, primaries will take place in Boadilla del Monte and Colmenar Viejo in Madrid, as well as in Gijón (Asturias), Benicàssim (Castellón), and Badajoz.

The voting process will use ballot boxes to ensure secrecy. If no candidate receives more than 50% of the vote in the first round on September 26, a second round will be held on October 3. This follows a previous round of primaries in July, with a final window of elections scheduled for November in 91 more cities.
