The National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE) has approved significant increases in natural gas and thermal energy tariffs in Moldova, effective October 1. Household natural gas prices will rise to 26.14 lei per cubic meter, including VAT, a nearly 30% increase from previous rates.

Thermal energy tariffs are also seeing substantial hikes across several regions. In Chișinău, Termoelectrica's rate will increase by approximately 62% to 3,277 lei per Gcal. Other notable increases include CET-Nord in Bălți, rising to 3,374 lei per Gcal, and Glodeni, where rates will reach 4,322 lei per Gcal.

These adjustments follow rising natural gas acquisition costs. The ruling Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) defended the decision, stating that authorities cannot control international market shocks but will provide compensation for vulnerable households. Meanwhile, opposition parties and civil society members held protests at the ANRE headquarters, criticizing the government for the rising cost of living and demanding accountability.
