Indonesia addresses AI infrastructure and human resource challenges

At the Lintas Teknologi Solutions Day 2026 forum in Jakarta, Indonesian officials and industry leaders discussed the nation's readiness for artificial intelligence. Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Nezar Patria emphasized that telecommunications infrastructure serves as the essential foundation for the AI ecosystem, noting that data exchange, cloud computing, and AI applications require reliable network connectivity.

Key challenges identified include the need for improved digital infrastructure, higher quality human resources, and regulatory certainty. The government aims to increase internet speeds to 100 Mbps and reduce costs to encourage more massive household penetration. While 4G coverage reaches nearly 99 percent of residential areas, fixed broadband penetration remains relatively low at approximately 22 percent.
