Psychological techniques for emotional stability and empathy

Methods for improving emotional stability and empathy involve self-awareness and active engagement with others. To stabilize emotions, individuals are encouraged to recognize specific feelings—such as anger, sadness, or anxiety—and give them specific names rather than dismissing them as general discomfort. Techniques include identifying triggers, monitoring physical reactions, regulating breathing, and journaling to respond to situations more consciously.

Developing empathy involves understanding the perspectives of others through three psychological types: cognitive empathy (understanding perspectives), emotional empathy (sharing feelings), and compassionate empathy (feeling driven to help). Practical steps to increase empathy include active listening without interrupting, respecting others' feelings even when not offering solutions, and asking questions to better understand their experiences.
