Indonesia accelerates electric vehicle charging infrastructure rollout

Indonesia is accelerating the expansion of its electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem through increased infrastructure development and regulatory support. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has implemented a roadmap for 2025–2030 to deploy public charging stations (SPKLU) across strategic locations, including shopping centers, industrial zones, highways, and tourist spots. To facilitate this, the government is streamlining business licensing to encourage private sector participation.

PT PLN (Persero) is supporting this transition by offering electricity capacity upgrades of up to 7,700 VA at a 50 percent discount for customers at the GIIAS 2026 auto show to assist with home EV charging. Meanwhile, private companies like iGreen+ aim to expand their network to 200 SPKLU points by the end of the year.

Technological advancements are also emerging in the sector, such as the introduction of the United RX6000 electric motorcycle by PT Terang Dunia Internusa Tbk, which is the first in Indonesia to feature a charging port compatible with the Euro Type 2 standard, allowing for greater flexibility in public charging.
