PT Kereta Api Indonesia focuses on fleet rejuvenation and station upgrades
Indonesian lawmakers and PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) are focusing on improving national railway services through fleet rejuvenation and infrastructure upgrades. Doni Akbar, a member of Commission VI of the DPR RI, has urged KAI to prioritize the timely procurement of new rolling stock to meet rising public demand. He specifically highlighted potential delays in the procurement of commuter rail cars produced by PT Industri Kereta Api (INKA), noting that production capacity and quality assurance must be evaluated to ensure a reliable transportation system.
In Yogyakarta, KAI Daop 6 is undergoing a revitalization project at Lempuyangan Station to enhance passenger connectivity, security, and comfort. The station has seen significant growth, with passenger volume increasing from approximately 5.39 million in 2024 to over 5.6 million in 2025. As part of the expansion, KAI has reorganized the station area, including the separation of passenger access from public roads and the demolition of several non-heritage buildings to facilitate the station's development into a lifestyle hub.
