PT Kereta Api Indonesia strategic development

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) is pursuing several strategic initiatives to enhance logistics and urban mobility in Indonesia.

In August 2026, the company began assessing ways to strengthen freight connectivity for the Batang Integrated Industrial Estate (KITB) in Java. This initiative seeks to create an integrated logistics ecosystem by linking the industrial zone with railway networks, dry ports, seaports, warehousing, and trucking services. KAI aims to utilize its capacity for large-volume, long-distance transport to connect production centers with distribution hubs.

By September 2026, KAI expanded its focus to urban management and Transit Oriented Development (TOD) in Jakarta. The company is reorganizing Jakarta's railway stations, such as Manggarai, Senen, and Gambir, to manage passenger density and prevent overcrowding. Simultaneously, KAI is developing vertical housing, including eight apartment towers on 2.2 hectares of land intended for low-income communities. Efforts to improve connectivity between Karet and Sudirman Baru stations have also been noted, with combined passenger volumes reaching over 6.7 million between January and August 2026.
