PT Kereta Api Indonesia integrates Jakarta stations and develops vertical housing

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) is implementing a strategic reorganization of Jakarta's railway stations to manage passenger density and improve urban mobility. The company is distributing intercity train stops across several major hubs, including Manggarai, Senen, and Gambir, to prevent overcrowding at central stations. At Manggarai Station alone, transit volumes are estimated between 180,000 and 220,000 customers per day.

As part of a Transit Oriented Development (TOD) initiative, KAI is also developing vertical housing. This includes the construction of eight apartment towers on 2.2 hectares of land in Jakarta, specifically designed to provide residences for low-income communities.

Additionally, KAI has enhanced connectivity between Karet Station and the new Sudirman Baru Station. Between January and August 2026, these two stations served a combined 6,702,680 Commuter Line passengers, with Karet Station accounting for 4,909,334 activities and Sudirman Baru Station accounting for 1,793,346.
