PGN gas corruption case: Two defendants sentenced to prison

The Jakarta Corruption Court has issued sentences in the PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN) Tbk gas trading corruption case, which resulted in state losses of approximately $15 million USD (Rp255 billion).

Arso Sadewo Tjokrosoebroto, President Commissioner of PT Inti Alasindo Energi (IAE) and Commissioner of Isargas Group, was sentenced to 5.5 years in prison. The court found that he enriched the Isargas Group by using PGN funds to settle the group's debts, despite PGN not being a financial or lending institution. Arso was also ordered to pay a fine of Rp250 million and a replacement sum of Rp118.5 billion.

Hendi Prio Santoso, the former President Director of PGN from 2008 to 2017, was sentenced to four years in prison. He was also fined Rp200 million and ordered to pay a replacement sum of 500,000 Singapore dollars. The corruption involved a gas trading cooperation between PGN and PT IAE during the 2017–2021 period, characterized by upfront payments that were not included in the company's work plans and lacked adequate due diligence.
