Ptaki school attack involving 11-year-old with axe

An 11-year-old boy attacked a 10-year-old girl with an axe at a primary school in Ptaki, near Kolno. Police investigations suggest the girl was likely an accidental victim as she was passing by a restroom when the boy emerged with the weapon.

The victim was treated at the University Children's Clinical Hospital in Białystok and was expected to be discharged shortly after the incident. Local authorities, including the head of the Turośl commune, have pledged psychological support for the victim, the boy, the school staff, and the parents involved.

Under Polish law, the 11-year-old will not face criminal responsibility as he is under the age of 13. Instead, his case will be handled by a family court under the Act on Supporting and Resocializing Juveniles, which may involve placement in a specialized facility rather than a correctional center.
