PTCL warns of week‑long internet slowdown in Pakistan due to submarine cable repair

Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd (PTCL) announced scheduled maintenance on an international submarine cable starting on May 11 and lasting until May 18. The work, carried out with the International Cable Consortium to fix a fault, may cause internet service degradation, particularly during evening hours, for users across the country.

PTCL cautioned that the slowdown could affect the nation’s more than 150 million internet subscribers, many of whom rely on broadband for work and freelance earnings. Similar undersea‑cable disruptions have previously impacted Pakistani providers, highlighting the sector’s vulnerability to cable faults.

The company posted the notice on its X (formerly Twitter) account, urging customers to expect reduced connectivity during the maintenance period.
