Péter Magyar meets with leaders of Hungary's historical churches

Prime Minister Péter Magyar met with the leaders of Hungary’s four historical churches on Tuesday to discuss the future of cooperation between the state and religious communities. This high-level consultation marks the first of its kind in sixteen years, moving away from a relationship previously characterized by dependency toward one of partnership.

The government acknowledged the social role of religious communities in sectors such as education, culture, social services, and charitable activities. The objective of the meeting was to establish a transparent cooperation system to ensure the long-term sustainability of these services while addressing the nation's current challenges.

Participants included Cardinal Péter Erdő, János Székely of the Hungarian Catholic Bishops' Conference, Károly Fekete and Sándor Barna representing the Reformed Church, János Szemerei and Gergely Prőhle of the Evangelical Church, and Andor Grósz and Chief Rabbi Róbert Frölich representing the Jewish community.
