The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party has postponed its planned long march to Islamabad from September 27 to October 4. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi announced the decision, stating the march will now depart from Peshawar on the new date. The protest aims to demand the release of the party's incarcerated founder, former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who has been held in Adiala Jail since 2023.

The postponement is expected to significantly increase government security expenditures. Police sources indicate that costs could exceed 1 billion Pakistani rupees, as the government must maintain extensive security measures, including the rental of 1,550 shipping containers used to block major highways. The daily rental cost for these containers is approximately 46.5 million Pakistani rupees.

In response to the potential unrest, authorities have implemented strict measures, including the imposition of Section 144 in Punjab to prohibit gatherings. Numerous PTI activists and three of Imran Khan's sisters have been detained. While the march is delayed, party spokesperson Zulfi Bukhari noted that the party maintains the flexibility to launch the protest earlier if necessary.
