Public administration strike disrupts services across Portugal
A 24-hour strike by public administration workers, organized by the National Union of Workers in Services and Public Entities (STTS), has caused significant disruptions to public services on November 2.
In the Almeirim municipality, several educational institutions have closed, including Escola Básica 2,3 Febo Moniz, Escola Secundária Marquesa de Alorna, and the primary cycle of Escola dos Charcos. Pre-school activities were also affected in Benfica do Ribatejo and Fazendas de Almeirim.
In the Beja district, the strike has impacted parish councils, schools, and kindergartens. While essential services in hospitals and health centers are expected to maintain minimum operations, potential constraints in healthcare and court services remain a concern.
The STTS reported approximately 60% participation in the education and health sectors as of Monday morning. Key demands of the strike include the creation of a tax-free meal card valued at 10.20 euros per day and a revision of the Integrated System for Management and Performance Evaluation (SIADAP) to protect workers' performance points during contract changes or career transitions.
