Public health campaigns promote breastfeeding in Peru and Chile

Public health initiatives to promote breastfeeding have been launched in Peru and Chile. In Abancay, Peru, the EsSalud Apurímac healthcare network organized a mass awareness march to mark the launch of Breastfeeding Week 2026. The event featured health professionals using educational materials to highlight the nutritional and cognitive benefits of breastfeeding for newborns.

In La Serena, Chile, the Seremi de Salud de Coquimbo hosted a community fair in the Plaza de Armas. The event brought together universities and healthcare teams to provide guidance to pregnant women and families. Officials noted that while exclusive breastfeeding rates in hospitals rose to 73% in 2025, maintaining exclusive breastfeeding through the first six months remains a challenge, with rates dropping to 56% by that milestone.
