Public health initiatives launched in Gnagna and Maniema

In Burkina Faso, local authorities and residents in the Gnagna province conducted sanitation operations in Bogandé to combat vector-borne diseases. The initiative included cleaning gutters, eliminating stagnant water, removing used tires, and weeding near the Bogandé Medical Center with Surgical Antenna (CMA). Provincial Secretary General Mendien Moussa Soma emphasized that environmental cleanliness is a primary barrier against disease vectors and called for continuous community mobilization, with further sessions planned for September, October, and November 2026.

In the Maniema province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, a five-day vaccination campaign was launched in Kindu to combat polio, measles, and rubella. Governor Mussa Kabwankubi Moïse presided over the launch, targeting children aged zero to 59 months for polio vaccines and children aged 6 months to 14 years for measles and rubella vaccines. Provincial health official Dr. Faustin Ekonda noted that low vaccination coverage and insufficient epidemiological surveillance have contributed to a resurgence of measles and rubella, highlighting that Maniema recorded 11 of the 36 polio cases reported in the country in 2026.
