In Burkina Faso, sanitation operations have expanded in the Gnagna province. Provincial health official Dr. Faustin Ekonda reported that Maniema accounted for 11 of the 36 polio cases recorded in the country in 2026, attributing the resurgence of certain diseases to low vaccination coverage and insufficient epidemiological surveillance.

In Mali, the Caisse Nationale d’Assurance Maladie (CANAM) has launched workshops to strengthen the governance and transparency of health mutuelles, supporting the Universal Health Insurance Scheme (RAMU) for rural and informal sectors. In Senegal, authorities mobilized personnel and drones for sanitary coverage during the Gamou 2026 celebrations. However, health officials are also responding to a diphtheria outbreak in the Kédougou region, where 22 cases and three deaths have been recorded, prompting concerns over low immunization rates. Additionally, Togo has launched a national campaign targeting over two million children to combat measles and rubella.
