Public officials in Mexico and Ecuador face misconduct and corruption allegations

In Mexico, Carlos González de la Calleja has stepped down from his position at the Public Registry of Property office of the Instituto Registral y Catastral del Estado de Puebla (IRCEP) in Huauchinango. His departure follows months of criticism regarding his professional conduct, including allegations of mistreating citizens and using TikTok to post controversial videos involving workplace colleagues and political figures. Additionally, there were claims regarding his involvement in partisan political activities during working hours.

In Ecuador, José Julio Neira, the Secretary of Public Administration, has released official documentation to support allegations of a corruption network within the Cuenca Mayor's Office. Neira presented certificates from the Superintendency of Companies and commercial invoices to demonstrate that family members of suspended Mayor Cristian Zamora hold shares in several commercial firms, including ALFAHOLDING CIA. LTDA., LARIOJA CIA. LTDA., and EL HIERRO S. A. The documentation also suggests links between these entities and contractors involved in public works, such as the construction of the El Valle Municipal Hospital.
