Public transport services face crisis in Genoa and Cosenza
Public transport services in Italy are facing significant operational and structural challenges in Genoa and Cosenza.
In Genoa, the Ugl union has proposed that Amt should suppress specific lines, such as lines 6 and 8, rather than implementing a uniform 10 percent reduction across the entire network. Roberto Piccardo, secretary of the union, warned that reducing service in densely populated areas could compromise the safety of staff, as increased passenger frustration may lead to confrontations with drivers.
In Cosenza, the future of the municipal company Amaco remains uncertain. A meeting between bankruptcy trustees and unions is scheduled to evaluate a proposal from Cometra to absorb all current personnel. The Cosenza Court has extended the dismissal procedure by ten days to allow for the examination of Cometra’s industrial plan. Previously, unions had rejected an acquisition attempt by the Carlomagno Consortium due to concerns regarding job security.
